Improve English Proficiency and Reach the Next Level

  • Go Online: The internet is a great source for learning! e-Learning is one of the most powerful tools that is immediately available to you. If you are interested in getting to the next level, this is a great first step.
  • Join an English Conversation group: Check local listings for English-speaking groups in your area. If there are not any, then start your own group. English-speaking groups meet on a regular basis (e.g., every day for thirty minutes after school or after lunch) and have discussions only in English. Speaking with others helps to practice all the English you have previously learned and improves overall speaking skills.
  • Watch English TV programs or movies: Watching TV programs and movies is a good way to practice listening skills and to get to know more about the culture of English speaking countries. If you have a video, try stopping every few minutes and summarizing what you see.
  • Listen to English Songs: The words to songs or lyrics can be found online. Listen to your favorite songs while reading the lyrics to improve listening. Try summarizing the song to help with comprehension.
  • Listen to English books on CD: Many popular books can now be found on audio CDs. Put the CD on your MP3 player and listen while walking or taking public transportation. Put the CD in your car and listen while driving.
  • Listen to the Radio: In every country, there are English language broadcasts. Find out the English stations in your area and actively listen to the broadcasts.
  • Read English Books: Reading English books helps to visualize authentic vocabulary and grammar. Read a chapter underlining words or phrases you do not understand. Then, after you finish reading, go back and look up unknown words in the dictionary. Reading can also help you understand the culture of English-speaking countries.
  • Read Magazines: Reading magazines helps to learn contemporary phrases and expressions. Magazines can be more exciting if you are interested in pop culture such as fashion, food, or sports.
  • Read Newspapers: Reading newspapers helps to keep you up to date with events that are happening around the world. High quality newspapers such as the New York Times or the Guardian are good for learning new vocabulary and expressions. Try reading the story and then summarizing it for practice.
  • Keep an English Journal: Have a notebook reserved only for English writing and challenge yourself to write for 15 minutes every day. English Journals are good to help improve your vocabulary and to keep a list of expressions that you would like to use.
Now that you have read the 10 tips on how to improve English proficiency, decide which methods you like best.  Start with your favorite on the list, and then try a different method each week for the next 10 weeks.  You will be on your way to improving your English with fun, enjoyable methods.

Today, This is my fourth in curriculum and learning management in English. I have learned about teaching method that my friends presented. They presented about pronunciation teaching, Culture teaching , Test specification teaching lerning.
First, Pronunciation teaching Pronunciation involves far more than individual sounds. Many teachers, especially if they are new to teaching ESL classes, may be a little intimated by the prospect of having to teach pronunciation. Students from different languages have different pronunciation difficulties. When teaching pronunciation, teachers are giving feedback to their student about how they are saying things. Here are some ideas for focusing on specific pronunciation features. Voicing Aspiration, Mouth Position, Intonation, Linking, Vowel Length, Syllables,  Specific Sounds.
Second, Culture teaching,Culture is a broad concept that embraces all aspects of human life. It includes everything people learn to do. It is everything humans have learned. Culture shapes our thoughts and actions, and often does so with a heavy hand. Of its several meanings, two are of major importance to teachers: Hearthstone or "little-c" culture: Culture as everything in human life (also called culture BBV: Beliefs, Behavior, and Values) Olympian or "big-C" culture:  the best in human life restricted to the elitists (also called culture MLA: great Music, Literature, and Art of the country). We should realize that knowing the language, as well as the patterns of everyday life, is a prerequisite to appreciating the fine arts and literature, therefore we need a balanced perspective of culture when designing curricula.
Last, Test specification teaching,It have 1. Language testing and teaching 2. Approaches to language testing 3. Clasification of tests and testing 4. Consideration in test design 5. Test specification 6. Writing test items 7. Item writing for different skills 8. Describing test results 9. Item analysis 10. Correlation 11. Reliability estimates 12. Test score interpretation. Evaluation of the language in this period will be assessed according to Jing. No evaluation of the test.
Conclude, From the first week to this week for curriculum and learning management in English that my friends presented knowledge. We must be able to applied the lesson plan.
